Nichola Shanley graduated from the Auckland Society of Art majoring in Printmaking. since then her practise has developed from bodies of drawing using gauche on paper, to more recent works in porcelain. Her hand is always evident in her work and there is a feeling of unconstrained deftness in her use of media. Nichola's latest series of ceramic sculptures meld intriguing images from her subconscious, artistic and historical influences rendered in clay and then painted and glazed. The forms are suggestive of artefacts but modern in their direction. Nichola is now based in Lyttleton.
